Cancer has no boundaries.....we need to find a way to change that!
When the going gets tough, the tough get going!
Everyone has been touched by cancer at one point in their lives. That’s why this September I’m participating in Randstad’s Ride for Myriam. This special ride is in honor of a work colleague who lost her life to cancer.
Motivated by two special people in my life who lost their lives to cancer, I am determined to help make a difference. Every step I take, every mile I run or bike, will be in honor of Heather Ray and Mun Lim.
Heather Ray was diagnosed with bone cancer in junior high school. She had her leg amputated and was given a short time to live but surpassed every expectation. She went to college, got married, had two beautiful girls. She lived every day to the fullest and had the most infectious smile and laugh. Everything was better when Heather was there. In her adult life, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and ultimately lost her life to cancer at age 42.
Mun Lim was a great friend with whom I ran my first marathon. We met through a training team for marathons to raise money for Leukemia. Together, we trained and ran 4 marathons. Mun was the kind of person that made training fun, no matter how far we were running. Like Heather, she was a bright spot in every day. She lost her life to stomach cancer when she was in her 30s.
Both of these ladies left a lasting impression on me and on everyone they encountered. With them in my mind, I am going to run and bike 150 miles over the next two weeks to raise money to help fight this terrible disease.
