When the going gets tough, the tough get going!

Everyone has been touched by cancer at one point in their lives. That’s why I’m getting into shape in preparation for this year’s edition of the Randstad Ride.

While I genuinely enjoy running and constantly challenging myself, I have never actually participated in a bike race before. This is my first year doing this ride—or any ride, for that matter. It is a massive personal milestone for me, but it is also a profound opportunity to be part of something much bigger than myself. By stepping out of my comfort zone, I get to be part of a passionate community of like-minded people, backed by a company that has the collective drive and power to make a real, lasting change.

I am deeply motivated to help end this terrible disease by supporting vital children's cancer research and care. The children we are supporting through this fundraiser fight battles every single day that most people can't even begin to imagine. But our support doesn't end when treatment does. Through the National Children's Cancer Society's (NCCS) Beyond the Cure Ambassador Scholarship Program, this cause also invests directly in survivors' futures by helping them overcome the lasting impacts of cancer and pursue their educational goals.

Those of us who are fortunate enough to have our health and strength have a responsibility to do our part to help. We owe it to them to take action, while fully living and appreciating the healthy lives we have been granted.

Every kilometer I pedal will be in honor of these resilient kids, the survivors building their futures, as well as the loved ones, friends, and colleagues who have fought or are currently fighting their own battles with cancer.
